Memories: Creativity Against Cancer
by

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have heard me getting quite excited about the Memories project: inspired from shared experiences of individuals who have survived cancer, as well those of people who have lost loved ones, each of these memories have been interpreted by some of the world’s leading artists, illustrators and designers. The result: Memories. 44 stunning pieces of art and 12 touching stories about individuals who’ve battled cancer.
There’s good reason for me to be excited about this.
The first of course, is that this is an amazing project crammed with talent. Incredible, mind-blowing talent.
Then of course, there’s the cause. Proceeds from the sales of Memories will go to the charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. It’s an awful truth that one in three of us will be affected by cancer and until that happens, it’s easy to overlook the importance of organisations like Maggie’s.
Finally, there’s my own involvement in the project – an involvement from which I feel incredibly lucky and humbled. I, like so many of you, have been affected by the increasingly permissive Big C. And though I’m usually fiercely private about detailing life outside of 3ManFactory, this was an opportunity to help by sharing and in doing so, benefit from the catharsis of contribution. It’s been a long time in the making and I’ve seen, witnessed and been awed by the staggering contributions of a talented and global community. It’s a beautiful and inspiring book.
Computer Arts magazine have profile the making of the book, giving it some well deserved publicity.
The project was launched by Designers Against Human Rights Abuse (DAHRA), Subism, OneTenEleven Media and editor Garrick Webster.
You can order your copy of Memories here. It’s £15 (which includes P&P). Again ,proceeds of sales go to the charity Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres, which helps hundreds of cancer victims and their families every day, and each centre fosters an atmosphere of understanding, support and creativity.
