There’s no getting away from the news that Twitter have released their own video tool, Vine. Taking a similar approach to how Twitter condenses written communication, Vine allows users to create short (6 second) videos which loop.
Vine may not be reintroducing the wheel, but they are offering something different. Rather than creating fairly dull static videos in a single take, Vine encourages a multi-shot or stop-start motion effect which has led to lots of creative examples popping up.
On first viewing, the application feels very familiar. It could be likened to Instagram in terms of the layout, comment & like functionality along with the activity streams available. From a user-experience point of view, it’s extremely simple to navigate. Using the app is equally as simple: to record, you simply need to hold your finger against the screen. There’s no need to select a capture button – simply press the screen to record, release to pause and once you’re time’s up, another press to confirm.
Vine is currently available on iPhone devices (however, iPad users can also head to the App Store and grab it).
