Introducing Hashtags on Facebook

by James Duffell

You read it correctly! First Twitter, then Google+ and now Facebook have introduced hashtags.

Hashtags are a cracking way to interact with people that have talked about or are currently talking about similar interests to yours.

Facebook have likened the hashtag feature to that already available on Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Pinterest (interesting that there’s no mention of Google+ though!).

So what sets Facebook hashtags from other networks? Not a whole lot it would appear; the three main uses which Facebook have listed are:

  • Search for a specific hashtag from your search bar. For example, #NBAFinals
  • Click on hashtags that originate on other services, such as Instagram.
  • Compose posts directly from the hashtag feed and search results.

Will the introduction of hashtags see you bringing the conversation from an exciting network to Facebook?
